Guro-gu Levies Second-Half 2026 Vehicle Environmental Improvement Charges

Guro-gu has announced the imposition of the second-half 2026 vehicle environmental improvement charge and is urging owners to pay by the deadline.

The environmental improvement charge requires those responsible for environmental pollution to cover part of the cost of treating pollutants. Revenue from the charge funds air quality improvement and environmental conservation projects.

The assessment period for this round covers Jan. 1 through June 30, 2026. The charge applies to anyone who owned a diesel-powered vehicle during that period, with the amount calculated on a pro-rated basis according to the length of ownership.

The payment window runs from Monday through Sept. 30. Owners can pay in person at any bank or post office nationwide using their billing notice, or by bank transfer or credit card. Online payment is also available through the eTax system, and payments can be made via automated phone service.

"If you do not pay by the deadline, a 3 percent surcharge will be added," a Guro-gu official said. "Since there are many convenient ways to pay, we strongly encourage everyone to settle the charge on time."
