Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Joins Free Chuseok Vehicle Safety Checkup

The parking lot of Yangcheon-gu Office was busy Sunday, just ahead of the chuseok holiday. As vehicles pulled in one by one for free inspections and their hoods went up, professional mechanics got straight to work.

Yangcheon-gu partnered with the Seoul Automobile Maintenance Business Cooperative (CarPos) Yangcheon chapter to hold a free chuseok vehicle safety checkup for residents ahead of the holiday travel season. About 40 certified mechanics from the CarPos Yangcheon chapter took part, carefully checking the safety of roughly 400 vehicles.

District Mayor Lee Ki-jae visited the site, walking through the inspection area to observe mechanics checking hoods and tires, and greeting CarPos Yangcheon technicians who gave up their day off to take part. He thanked them for their efforts in helping residents travel safely for the holiday.

Mechanics inspected battery condition, tire wear, lighting systems, engine and other fluid levels, and coolant, checking each vehicle thoroughly before its long-distance journey. Wipers and bulbs that could be replaced on the spot were swapped out free of charge, engine oil and washer fluid were topped up, and vehicles requiring further work were given inspection reports with guidance on follow-up servicing.

Yangcheon-gu has offered free pre-chuseok vehicle checkups every year since 1998. This year, responding to steady resident demand, the district expanded the service from once to twice a year — one session each in the first and second halves — so more residents can check their vehicles before long trips.

"Every year, many residents show strong interest in and take part in the free vehicle checkup, so this year we prepared the inspection even more carefully so that more people can use it conveniently," District Mayor Lee said. "I hope this checkup helps everyone prepare for a safer and more comfortable chuseok journey home, and I am deeply grateful to the CarPos Yangcheon chapter mechanics who joined us on their day off."
