LG Uplus, Defense Ministry host AI camp for military children

LG Uplus is hosting an AI skills camp for children of military personnel, aiming to build their AI capabilities and digital literacy through education and hands-on experiences.

LG Uplus announced Monday that it is holding the "Idream Challenge LG Uplus AI Plus Camp" with the Ministry of National Defense at Konjinam Resort in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, alongside a family invitation event.

The camp was designed to help children of service members develop future digital skills by learning to understand and use AI responsibly. The event's theme is "Special Mission! Protect Mom and Dad — Little AI Guardians." A total of 303 participants are taking part, including 110 students in grades four through six and 193 guardians.

Participating students will take part in a magic performance using generative AI and a range of AI experience programs. They will also complete the camp's centerpiece activity — an AI hackathon — in which they build a "guardian robot" using sensors and coding with the help of mentors, then present their results using AI-assisted materials. The exercise gives students experience applying AI to real problem-solving rather than simply consuming the technology.

The venue will also feature AI experience booths — an AI photo booth, an AI motion-tracking zone, an AI webtoon creation station and an AI voice experience — to deepen participants' understanding of AI in everyday life.

A separate program will run for parents, who can attend a special lecture on raising children in the AI era, covering how the educational environment is changing in the age of generative AI and how to use AI appropriately.

The camp is open to families enrolled in the corporate social responsibility program Idream Challenge. LG Uplus has continued supporting military families since the COVID-19 pandemic, when it provided remote education programs. More recently, it has expanded its offerings to include career exploration, science and digital education aimed at building future capabilities.
