700 employees complete 6 km course at Incheon Grand Park
Donations to go to 5 local welfare organizations
General Motors Korea and Hyeopsinghoe, an association of domestic GM suppliers, held a "10,000-Step Charity Walk" at Incheon Grand Park in Namdong-gu, Incheon, on Saturday, the companies announced Monday.
Held under the slogan "Walk Together, Share Together," the event was designed to promote health and community giving among employees of GM Korea and Hyeopsinghoe member companies. Participants completed an approximately 6-kilometer course through Incheon Grand Park, with 1 won donated per step — meaning each person who reached 10,000 steps generated a 10,000 won ($7) contribution.
About 700 people took part, including GM Korea President Hector Villarreal, GM Korea Vice President of Purchasing Bang Seon-il, Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae, Hyeopsinghoe Chairman Heo Woo-young, and employees and board members from GM Korea and Hyeopsinghoe member companies.
The donations will go to five local organizations — Bupyeong Home-Based Senior Support Center, Hanultari Temporary Shelter, Shilmanhan Mulgaui Jip, Eungwangwon and the Rice Sharing Movement Headquarters — to be used for daily necessities, convenience items, clothing and waterproofing work on buildings.
"It is deeply meaningful to practice health and giving together with GM Korea and Hyeopsinghoe," Villarreal said. "I hope the steps we took together today lead to meaningful change for our community." He added that GM would continue to expand its corporate social responsibility activities to allow suppliers and local communities to participate and grow together.
Heo said the event was especially meaningful because it brought GM Korea and Hyeopsinghoe member companies together to put the value of mutual growth into practice. "Hyeopsinghoe will consistently continue its community giving activities alongside GM, grounded in communication and cooperation among member companies," he said.
GM Korea and Hyeopsinghoe said they plan to continue a range of collaborative initiatives connecting suppliers and local communities.
Hyeopsinghoe was founded in 1984 with 155 member companies and now counts 260 active members. Since 2008, the association has carried out annual giving and support activities, fulfilling its commitment to social responsibility and coexistence with local communities.
Meanwhile, GM Korea offers customers a diverse product portfolio through a multi-brand strategy and provides high-quality service at its nationwide network of service centers, using GM-certified technology and standardized procedures.
