Drunk driver in his 20s kills man in early-morning collision in Yangju

A man in his 20s who was heavily intoxicated when he crashed into a car stopped at a traffic light in the early hours of Monday, killing the driver, has been arrested at the scene.

According to the Yangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, a Genesis sedan driven by a heavily intoxicated man in his 20s struck a Sonata entering an intersection from a different direction at around 2 a.m. Monday in Okjeong-dong, Yangju.

The Sonata's driver, a man in his 30s, was rushed to a hospital in cardiac arrest but was pronounced dead.

The Genesis driver's blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was above the threshold for license revocation.

Police arrested the man in his 20s on charges of causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash, including whether he ran a red light.
