Bonghwa-gun selected for 2026 safety streetlight support project

Bonghwa-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Monday it has been selected for the 2026 Ansim Streetlight Plus support project, organized by the social welfare organization World Vision and sponsored by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

The competition was open to local governments nationwide, and Bonghwa-gun earned its selection after receiving high marks for the project's feasibility and the county's capacity to carry it out.

The Ansim Streetlight Plus support project is a flagship corporate social responsibility initiative by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power that has been running since 2014, aimed at expanding safety infrastructure in areas vulnerable to nighttime crime and accidents.

The site selected is the Hyeondongcheon trail in Hyeondong-ri, Socheon-myeon — a walking path used by local residents for health and leisure. Under the project, 22 solar-powered safety streetlights will be installed along the trail.

The total project cost is 200 million won ($149,000).

Bonghwa-gun Mayor Choi Ki-young said he hopes the new streetlights will help residents enjoy their leisure time more safely. "We will consistently expand community-level safety facilities to address the inconveniences residents face in their daily lives, prevent crime and eliminate blind spots in public safety," he said.
