A liquefied petroleum gas leak from a parked vehicle near a day care center in Gyeonggi Province sent more than 60 people fleeing Monday.
A report of a suspected gas leak was received at around 9:02 a.m. Monday at a day care center in Hadong, Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, according to Yonhap.
A staff member at the center reported a strong smell of gas near the entrance.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene determined that gas was leaking from an LPG vehicle parked on the street outside the center.
Fire department officials shut the valve on the gas cylinder and took other safety measures before leaving the scene.
No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted about 60 people — including staff and children — to evacuate the facility.
Police and fire authorities believe the leak stemmed from a malfunction in the LPG cylinder equipment and are investigating the exact circumstances.
