Eight Seoul National University professors will deliver weekly relay lectures from Sept. 16 through Nov. 4, featuring scholars known for the textbook "Principles of Economics," the TV program "Chainaneun Keulllaeseu" and more.
Yeongdeungpo-gu will launch a free relay lecture series featuring Seoul National University faculty, the district office announced.
The series, titled "Yeongdeungpo Jisikin" ("Yeongdeungpo Knowledge Person," a lifelong-learning lecture program), was developed under an MOU between Yeongdeungpo-gu and Seoul National University's Continuing Education Center. It is designed to give residents easy, everyday access to acclaimed university lectures spanning the humanities, social sciences and the arts.
The lectures will be held every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the YDP Mirae Lifelong Learning Center, running from Wednesday through Nov. 4. The eight sessions will cover education, history, urban studies, economics, music, fine arts, psychology and the environment.
The lineup features professors well known to the public through broadcasting and publishing. Among them are Lee Jun-koo, emeritus professor and author of the widely used textbook "Principles of Economics"; Min Eun-ki, who appeared on the television program "Chainaneun Keulllaeseu," a popular TV humanities show; and Kwak Keum-joo, who featured on tvN's "Psychology Concert" — along with five other leading scholars from their respective fields.
The series opens Wednesday with Kim Dong-il, a professor in Seoul National University's Department of Education. Kim will speak on "What Is Intelligence: How to See the World Wisely," exploring the nature of intelligence beyond conventional metrics such as test scores and IQ, and offering perspectives on living with greater wisdom.
The following week, on Sept. 23, Heo Seong-do, emeritus professor of Chinese language and literature at Seoul National University, will lecture on "Our Perspective on Our Own History." On Sept. 30, Kim Se-hun, a professor at the university's Graduate School of Environmental Studies, will speak on "Urban Observatory: Ways of Perceiving Space and People."
All sessions are free of charge, with 80 seats available per lecture on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents wishing to attend can register through the integrated reservation system on the district office's website. For further details, contact the YDP Mirae Lifelong Learning Center directly.
"We are delighted to bring our residents deeply enriching lectures from some of South Korea's most distinguished scholars," Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Jo Yu-jin said. "We will continue to develop diverse programs that make high-quality learning accessible and affordable in everyday life."
