Gwanak-gu and Ministry of Employment and Labor Conduct Joint Chuseok Safety Inspection at Construction Sites

Gwanak-gu conducted a joint safety inspection of construction sites Monday with the Seoul Gwanak Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

The inspection covered two sites — the Sillim-dong multipurpose government complex under construction and a private mixed-use residential and commercial development — to proactively assess safety management conditions before the holiday period, when the risk of industrial accidents tends to rise.

The Sillim-dong multipurpose complex, a district-commissioned project, covers a total floor area of 2,592 square meters across five above-ground floors and two below-ground floors. Construction began in June 2025, and interior and exterior finishing work is currently underway at a 78 percent completion rate, with the project on track to be finished by year's end.

The joint inspection team included Gwanak-gu District Mayor Park Jun-hee, the head of the Seoul Gwanak Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, heads of relevant departments, safety managers and labor inspectors. The team focused on safety management practices that can become lax during holiday periods to ensure the inspection's effectiveness.

Key areas of review included compliance with basic safety rules such as wearing protective gear, and whether hazardous machinery and major risk factors — including fall hazards, entrapment, collision and fire risks — were being left unaddressed under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Any violations identified were corrected on the spot, with particular attention paid to preventing safety gaps during the Chuseok holiday period.

Gwanak-gu had previously partnered with the Seoul Gwanak Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor in May to conduct a safety culture awareness campaign and industrial safety patrol inspection at workplaces in the district. The district plans to continue strengthening cooperation with the ministry, carrying out regular safety inspections and verifying compliance with safety management requirements to prevent industrial accidents.

"Construction has been proceeding smoothly without any safety incidents through the structural work, but we must approach the remaining work with the mindset that the real challenge starts now," District Mayor Park said. "I urge everyone on site to stay vigilant so we can complete the project without a single safety accident, and we will continue to make safety our top priority to create construction sites where workers can do their jobs with peace of mind."
