Speaker attends opening of 'Sero Jangter' — the country's largest direct-trade market, running through Thursday with discounts of up to 30% on regional produce
Im says Seoul Metropolitan Council will work to expand exchanges between city residents and farming communities
Seoul Metropolitan Council Speaker Im Man-gyun attended the opening ceremony of the "2026 Chuseok Sero Jangter" at Seoul Plaza on Tuesday afternoon, encouraging participating farmers and wishing Seoul residents a bountiful holiday.
After the ceremony, Im toured the vendor booths and purchased items including Hongseong hanwoo beef and Seosan traditional rice cookies.
Held annually around the Chuseok holiday, the Sero Jangter is the country's largest direct-trade market. This year's edition runs through Thursday, with 87 local governments from 10 cities and provinces taking part and offering regional agricultural and seafood specialties at discounts of up to 30% off regular retail prices.
"This year, farmers suffered greatly from record heat waves, heavy rains and other extreme weather, and many Seoul residents were worried about rising produce prices," Im said. "The Seoul Metropolitan Council will work harder to foster more active exchanges between Seoul residents and farming communities, and to create more opportunities for urban-rural co-prosperity."
