Banchan shop and brunch cafe staffed by 46 seniors open Tuesday at Cheongnyangni Lotte Castle Hi-Luche commercial complex; delivery service linkage expected to create jobs for about 100 seniors in total
Dongdaemun-gu held an opening ceremony Tuesday for "Modu-ui Chaeum" ("Everyone's Fulfillment"), a senior employment community business, on the B3 level of the Cheongnyangni Lotte Castle Hi-Luche commercial complex.
Operated by the Dongdaemun Senior Club, the facility was established to support an active lifestyle for elderly residents and create quality jobs for seniors.
Modu-ui Chaeum comprises two outlets — Chaeum Banchan, a side-dish specialty store, and Chaeum Lounge, a brunch cafe — staffed directly by 46 seniors. When delivery service operations are added to the store-based roles, the facility is expected to generate jobs for about 100 seniors in total.
Drawing on the skills and care of its senior staff, the facility plans to offer local residents healthy food options and a comfortable place to relax.
The opening ceremony, attended by Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min and other officials, included a welcome program, a congratulatory address by the district mayor, a ribbon-cutting and a walkthrough of the premises.
"This space, which opens its doors today, means far more than a simple banchan shop or cafe," Choi said. "A plate of side dishes and a warm cup of tea, made with the experience and care of our seniors, will serve as a strong link connecting our community." He added that the district would continue to spare no effort in expanding quality jobs where seniors can work safely and in good health.
