Shopping, hands-on activities, food, exhibitions and performances all on one street — with a sketching contest and stamp tour — as residents, merchants and artists come together to energize the local commercial district
Gangseo-gu in Seoul will host the "2026 Magok Art Street Local Brand Festival" on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., along the Magok Art Street commercial district.
Magok Art Street runs from Exit 3 of Magok Station to Space K Seoul. In January, the Seoul Metropolitan Government selected it for its local brand commercial district development program, with the goal of creating "a shopping district where residents want to linger and return."
The festival is designed to help residents encounter art naturally in their everyday lives while also revitalizing Magok Art Street as a representative commercial hub for the area.
The festival grounds will be organized into four themed halls and a "Youth Art Runway" zone. Hall 1 will feature sales booths run by local merchants offering perfumes, accessories, coffee and desserts, while Hall 2 will host hands-on booths where visitors can try nail art, caricatures and craft-making.
In Hall 3, illustrator HAchi will put on a live drawing show, creating works on the spot. Hall 4 will offer a picnic-style rest area where families can relax and enjoy food together.
The Youth Art Runway will transform the entire street into an open-air exhibition, performance and activity space. Visitors strolling the street can view works by 10 emerging artists and take part in hands-on activities — including making glass-bottle terrariums and a "Paper Plane King" event where participants write their dreams on paper planes and launch them. Live performances spanning K-pop, fusion gugak and hip-hop will also be on offer.
A stamp tour will run alongside the main program: visitors who collect verification stamps from all four halls and the Youth Art Runway will receive discount coupons redeemable at participating businesses in the district.
Meanwhile, a sketching contest on the theme "The Magok Art Street I Draw" will be held for about 80 children starting at 11 a.m. at Space K Seoul (32 Magok Jungang 8-ro). Participants will be divided into kindergarten, lower-elementary and upper-elementary groups, with three prizes awarded in each category.
A series of district-specific cultural programs will also run on a regular basis through Oct. 22. Offerings include an art class during the lunch hour, a combined yoga and docent session for the evening commute, and a late-night movie theater to close out the day.
District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon said the festival "will be an opportunity for residents to enjoy art in their daily lives while at the same time giving the local commercial district a boost," adding that Gangseo-gu would "continue to provide sustained support so that Magok Art Street can grow into one of Seoul's most appealing commercial destinations."
