Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun attended the "Senior Center Joint Performance Showcase" Wednesday afternoon at the open hall on the third floor of the Seoul Metropolitan Mapo Senior Welfare Center, cheering on elderly residents as they took the stage and sharing in the festivities.
Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Mapo Senior Welfare Center, the event was held ahead of the Chuseok holiday to give seniors a chance to showcase performances they had been preparing and to strengthen bonds among the district's senior centers.
The event opened with celebratory performances by a hula dance group and a daycare center troupe. Teams from each senior center then took the stage in turn to display the skills they had been practicing, drawing warm applause and cheers from the audience.
Before the performances began, Yoo met with the senior participants and organizers to offer words of encouragement. "Today is the day to show off everything you have learned and practiced together," he said. "It's perfectly fine to make a small mistake, so set aside any pressure and just enjoy yourselves."
He also pledged continued support for the district's elderly residents. "We will consistently upgrade aging and inconvenient senior center facilities so that our seniors can spend their time more comfortably and happily," he said, adding that the meal-delivery program recently expanded to senior centers would be maintained. He closed by wishing the seniors good health during the change of seasons and a warm and joyful Chuseok.
