A 5-kilometer walking event at Sinjeong Bridge on Anyangcheon on Sunday, with on-site registration open from 7:30 a.m. for the first 1,200 participants
Yeongdeungpo-gu will hold its "Community Health Walking Event" on Sunday to mark the district's 31st Residents' Day, with participants walking a round-trip course of about 5 kilometers along Anyangcheon between Sinjeong Bridge and Yangpyeong Bridge.
The event is designed to give residents a chance to step away from their busy routines and recharge, tending to both their physical health and peace of mind.
The walk will take place along Anyangcheon, which offers scenic waterfront views. The long riverside path is ideal for strolling with family and friends in the cool autumn breeze.
A total of 1,200 residents are expected to take part. On-site registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and an opening ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. on the athletic track beneath Sinjeong Bridge. The walk itself begins at 10 a.m., covering the roughly 5-kilometer round-trip stretch between Sinjeong Bridge and Yangpyeong Bridge.
Given the large number of participants, the district will station trained safety personnel, medical staff and ambulances at multiple points along the route to ensure everyone can walk safely.
Any resident fit enough to complete the 5-kilometer course is welcome to join — simply bring a valid ID and register on-site on a first-come, first-served basis. The entry fee is 1,000 won, all of which will go toward helping underprivileged neighbors. A prize draw will also be held after the event.
The venue is a five-minute walk from Exit 2 of Dorimcheon Station on subway Line 2, and can also be reached via the Munrae Overpass next to Munrae Hyundai 2nd Apartment.
Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Jo Yu-jin encouraged residents to take part. "I hope you will set aside the busyness of daily life for a moment and walk alongside the people who matter most to you along Anyangcheon, where the cool autumn breeze awaits," she said. "We will continue to do our utmost to promote community sports so that every resident can exercise close to home and enjoy a healthy life."
