The special prosecutor's team led by Lee Tae-han launched its first major investigative action Thursday, just 10 days after its formation, moving to uncover the truth behind a ballot shortage that marred the June 3 local elections.
The team dispatched prosecutors and investigators to nine locations Thursday morning, including the National Election Commission headquarters and regional election commissions, conducting simultaneous search and seizure operations.
It is the first search and seizure operation since the special prosecutor's team officially launched on Sept. 7. Investigators are securing internal servers and other materials from National Election Commission offices.
The team is investigating 12 allegations, including the ballot shortage during the local elections, manipulation of voting statistics, overseas junkets by National Election Commission officials, improper hiring and promotion practices, preferential no-bid contracts, and illicit ties with vendors.
