About 30 seniors and daycare children gathered Wednesday at Songhakdang senior center to make songpyeon together ahead of the Chuseok holiday
Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae joined a cross-generational songpyeon rice cake-making event Wednesday at Songhakdang senior center ahead of the Chuseok holiday, spending time with local seniors and children.
The event was part of the "Eoulim Senior Center Program," a Seoul Metropolitan Government support project designed to bring seniors and children together to make traditional holiday food and foster intergenerational exchange.
About 30 people attended, including seniors from Songhakdang senior center and children from Dowon Samsung Daycare Center.
Before the rice cake-making began, children performed songs and dances in a talent showcase that added to the festive atmosphere.
Kim then joined participants in shaping the songpyeon, personally showing the children how to make the rice cakes as they followed along and chatted. The group shared the finished songpyeon together, savoring the warmth of the holiday season.
"It was a meaningful occasion to have seniors and children gather in one place ahead of Chuseok to make songpyeon and share the warmth between generations," Kim said. "We will continue to create opportunities for intergenerational exchange and build a warmer community."
