Daegu launches advisory council to drive advanced industry strategy

Daegu launched the Daegu Advanced Industry Development Strategy Advisory Council on Thursday at the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center, kicking off a top-level expert body to guide the city's industrial transformation and advanced industry development.

The council is tasked with diagnosing the current state of Daegu's industries, analyzing their strengths and limitations, and providing comprehensive advice on the direction of industrial development, core strategies, and key projects and action items.

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho chairs the 22-member council, which includes 10 external specialists representing advanced industries — semiconductors, robotics, mobility, AI and biotech — along with the heads of 11 regional industrial research institutions, including Kyungpook National University, the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement.

The inaugural session, which also served as a kickoff meeting, featured introductions of council members followed by presentations from Kyungpook National University and the Daegu Policy Research Institute on the current state and challenges facing the city's key industries.

The city plans to hold regular council sessions and establish a standing working-level planning team under the council to ensure that recommendations are translated into concrete policies and projects.

Building on those discussions, the city also aims to complete a roadmap for Daegu's industrial development strategy by the end of this year and draw up annual action plans to put it into practice.

"Through the advisory council, we will clearly identify the areas where Daegu must focus its efforts and push forward with action items without delay, creating tangible results that lead to change and growth," Mayor Choo said.
