'AI investment demand confirmed worldwide'
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Thursday (local time) that the company expects to sell twice as many chips next year as it does this year.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a Scotland AI summit hosted by Britain's King Charles III, Huang said Nvidia anticipates selling twice as many chips next year as this year, according to CNBC. "The reason is that AI contributes enormously to many industries and many economies, and in almost every country we operate in, we can see that people want to invest in AI," he said.
Nvidia had already raised market expectations on Aug. 26, when it released its second-quarter (May–July) earnings and projected that fiscal year 2028 (ending January 2028) sales would reach approximately $673 billion — a 70 percent increase from the prior year.
Huang's remarks refer to unit volume rather than revenue, meaning the chip sales growth rate could differ from revenue growth once price differences across products are taken into account. Nvidia does not disclose its total chip shipment figures.
Beyond data center GPUs, the company produces central processing units, chips for switches and optical networking, laptop chips, and Jetson chips for robotics and automotive applications.
Huang had previously said Nvidia shipped about 6 million Blackwell GPUs over four quarters last year.
Thursday's gathering also included Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and focused on AI safety. Huang said those building AI systems have a responsibility to test them rigorously. "When it's not safe enough, we should hold it back," he said.
