'Pushed myself too hard for 1-2 years without rest … stepping away from a busy routine for a while'
Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Jung Chung-rae said Friday he has been hospitalized for three days after going straight to the emergency room with severe chills and fever, and that he expects to remain there for about a week.
Jung wrote on his Facebook page that day that he has been fasting and has not been able to drink even a sip of water for three days.
"Did I push myself too hard without rest for one to two years? My mind was fine, but maybe my body couldn't keep up," he wrote, adding that he was treating his hospitalization as a signal to slow down.
He said that on Thursday evening he went for a short walk outside for the first time in two days. "It felt good to have the freedom to walk. Being sick reminds you that health really is the most important thing," he wrote. "I think my body gave out from severe overwork and accumulated fatigue. Too much of anything is never good."
He added that he planned to step away from his hectic daily routine for a while and take an objective look at the world around him. "They say when you fall, you notice the stone at your feet," he wrote. "Since I've fallen, I'll take the chance to rest — and while I'm in the hospital, I'll look up at the sky often and take in my surroundings."
