Work, get a massage, take a nap — all in one chair

A new category of "multi-function chair" is drawing attention — one that lets users work, get a massage and catch a short nap without leaving their seat. The concept merges an office chair with a massage chair and recliner in a single unit.

Coway has introduced just such a product with its new Berex Triple Chair 2 Slim.

At its core, the chair is designed as an office seat comfortable enough for remote work or long study sessions. A "hidden massage ball" mechanism tucks the massage nodes flush with the backrest when not in use, so users feel no protrusion while sitting upright. A firm head cushion supports the neck and head, and its height can be adjusted by up to 5 centimeters to suit different body types.

An optional "lumbar customization" setting applies what the company calls a "C-curve close-fit design," allowing the lumbar support to extend forward by up to 70 millimeters to hold the lower back firmly and encourage proper posture. Users can also save up to four personalized positions, the company said.

When it is time to rest, a motorized recline function tilts the backrest to 150 degrees, with free adjustment anywhere between 110 and 150 degrees. The backrest and leg rest can each be set independently. A three-zone heated seat — covering the back, lumbar, hips and legs — helps relieve fatigue, the company said.

The chair also delivers 21 types of customized massage through three-dimensional massage technology. The massage balls extend up to 83 millimeters and move not only up, down, left and right but also forward and back for a more immersive massage. A shoulder-detection sensor reads the user's shoulder position and works from the neck down to the lower back, the company added.

Despite being 9 percent smaller than its predecessor, the new model offers 21 massage modes in total. A "swing massage" course gently rocks the backrest back and forth to release tension more effectively, the company said.

"Rising residential costs and the growing number of one- and two-person households have made space efficiency a key factor in product selection," Coway said. "With its compact design, the chair fits comfortably even in smaller spaces, and we are launching it in response to demand for multi-function products."
