Relaxed, draping silhouettes replace structured long boots
'Slouch' searches up 214% as brands roll out new styles
"What boots is that woman wearing? The wrinkles look so natural."
Slouch boots — soft, naturally creased footwear that drapes and pools around the ankle — are emerging as one of the standout trends in the women's footwear market this fall. Unlike structured long boots, they are defined by a relaxed silhouette that forms as supple materials settle into easy folds.
Industry sources said Sunday that a broader shift in fashion toward comfortable, natural silhouettes — away from tight-fitting or artificially structured looks — is driving the trend. The appeal of suede, vintage and biker aesthetics, all staples of the fall-winter season, is amplifying interest in slouch boots.
Consumer data backs up the buzz. On the LF Mall shopping platform, searches for "suede" rose 103 percent in August compared with the previous month, while searches for "slouch" surged 214 percent.
Brands are responding with a range of designs. Jill Stuart New York Accessories introduced the "Serene Suede Slouch Middle Boot" as a key product for its 26FW season — a style that pairs soft suede with a naturally crinkled silhouette and buckle detailing.
Demand for slouch boots was already evident in last year's sales figures. A dark-brown slouch boot released for the 25FW season sold through at a rate exceeding 90 percent, prompting the brand to expand production of the style by 25 percent for this year.
New for this year is the "Nouvelle Cow Suede Long Boot," which grafts a relaxed slouch silhouette onto a classic riding boot shape to capture the effortless mood the style is known for.
Jill by Jill Stuart Accessories is introducing slouch boots for the first time this season. The lineup blends the slouch silhouette with buckles, string ties and fold-over elements for a youthful, casual feel. The standout piece is the "Rover Two-Buckle Biker Boot," a long boot that can be folded down into a fold-over boot, giving it two-way versatility.
Atté Vanessa Bruno Accessories is also pushing its "Suede Fabric Double-A Long Boot" as a lead shoe this season. The style sold out its initial stock when it launched last year and was restocked, with every colorway — brown, beige and gray — selling out before the season ended. The brand is carrying it as a flagship shoe again this year.
"There is growing interest in boots that highlight the texture of the material and a naturally flowing silhouette, rather than designs that hold a rigid shape," an industry official said. "In particular, the combination of suede, shirring and buckle details is helping slouch boots establish themselves as a key fall-winter shoe that works across a wide range of styles."
