Neal Shipley of the United States moved into sole possession of the lead at the Biltmore Championship, which carries a $5 million purse.
Shipley, who is in his rookie season on the PGA Tour, put together a blistering round Saturday at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove (par 71) in Asheville, North Carolina, carding an eagle and seven birdies in the second round.
The nine-stroke day brought Shipley to 15 under par and a 36-hole total of 127, one stroke ahead of Ben Kohles of the United States, who sits at 14 under par with a 128.
Among players set to compete in next week's Presidents Cup, Jacob Bridgeman of the US team posted the best result, sitting in a tie for sixth at 9 under par with a 133.
On the International team side, Nick Taylor of Canada made the cut in a tie for 38th at 5 under par (137), while fellow Canadian Corey Conners also advanced, tied for 61st at 3 under par (139).
However, International team members Christiaan Bezuidenhout of South Africa, Ryo Hisatsune of Japan and Nico Echavarria of Colombia all missed the cut.
