Singer Yang Hee-eun reveals cancer surgery in April, cornea transplant in June

Singer Yang Hee-eun has revealed that she underwent cancer surgery in April — a disclosure she made only recently. She had previously shared that she was recovering from a cornea transplant performed in June.

A video titled "The No. 1 impressionist Kim Young-chul challenges veteran Yang Hee-eun — and how did it go? (+ Yang Hee-eun's health update)" was posted Friday on Kim Young-chul's YouTube channel.

Kim traveled to Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, to visit Yang that day. Yang has been resting there, running a guesthouse and café.

Yang had briefly stepped away from her radio program following eye surgery, and fans grew concerned after photos of her using a cane appeared on SNS. She spent her recovery period after a cornea transplant in June.

"I actually had cancer surgery this April. The eye surgery was in June," Yang said. She did not specify what type of cancer she was treated for or what follow-up treatment she has received. Yang was given a terminal diagnosis of late-stage ovarian cancer at age 30 and has since undergone multiple surgeries.

When Kim expressed shock, Yang remained upbeat — mentioning comedian Park Mi-sun, who is battling breast cancer — and said the two had met and shouted "암스트롱" ("arm strong") together, drawing wide support from fans.

Yang missed the live broadcast of MBC Radio's "Yeoseong Sidae Yang Hee-eun, Kim Il-jung-imnida" when she underwent the cornea transplant in June.
