Jung Chan-min, Shin Sang-hoon share lead at Golfzon Open

Long hitter Jung Chan-min was forced to share the lead at the KPGA Tour Golfzon Open, which carries a purse of 1 billion won ($724,000).

Jung carded three birdies and two bogeys for a 1-under round Saturday, the tournament's third day, at Golfzon County Sunsan (par 71) in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, leaving him at 14 under par (199) tied for the lead with Shin Sang-hoon.

Jung had surged to a three-shot lead after firing a 7-under 64 in the second round Friday, and held a one-shot advantage through the 17th hole Saturday. A wayward tee shot into the trees left of the fairway on the par-5 18th resulted in a bogey, allowing Shin to draw level.

"The first tee shot was my mistake, and I thought I deserved the penalty for hitting it poorly," Jung said after the round. "Still, I was lucky to find the ball and the layup went well. My third shot went just over the green, which made the short game tricky. Tomorrow I won't dwell on this and will just focus on my own game."

Shin caught Jung by birdieing three consecutive holes — Nos. 16, 17 and 18 — on moving day, finishing with six birdies and one bogey for a 5-under round. "If I wait for my chances and play carefully tomorrow like I did today, I think good results will follow," Shin said, expressing confidence ahead of the final round.

Hwang Do-yeon fired the day's best round of 7-under 64 to reach 13 under (200), joining Jang Seung-bo — who also posted a 5-under round — in a tie for third. Moon Dong-hyun, this season's KPGA Championship winner, added a 4-under round to sit at 12 under (201), tied for fifth with Park Jun-seop.
