Finale of Chuncheon lake drone light show draws massive crowds
Chuncheon joins Seoul and Busan as a top drone art destination
Chuncheon has established itself as the third hub of 2,000-drone aerial art in South Korea, joining Seoul and Busan.
The finale of the Chuncheon Lake Drone Light Show unfolded Saturday night over Uiam Lake, stretching from the Geunhwa Waterfront Culture Plaza Forest to the Hwadong 2571 area, with twice as many drones lighting up the night sky as in any previous showing.
Themed "Chuncheon's autumn night under starlight," the show traced the shapes and movements of autumn and stars across the sky above Uiam Lake.
As the show began, crowds of residents and tourists gathered not only at the main viewing zones — the Culture Plaza Forest and the Hwadong 2571 area — but also on the Seomyeon side of the lake, directly across the water.
"We spent the afternoon with the kids in Seomyeon and then caught the drone show in the evening — it was great to have so much to enjoy around Uiam Lake all day long," said one visitor who attended with family. "Watching 2,000 drones paint pictures in the night sky all at once was truly impressive."
On the night of the finale, Hwadong 2571 hosted an outdoor pub, food trucks and a live DJ performance, while the Seomyeon Animation Museum and Chuncheon Literature Park held the "2026 Seomyeon Lake Starlight Festa."
The Lake Starlight Festa featured wellness programs including yoga, meditation, singing bowl sessions and a lakeside market. The evening's lineup ran from a starlight performance at 5 p.m. and a wellness film festival at 6 p.m. through to the drone light show at 8 p.m.
