Cheong Wa Dae convenes emergency security meeting after North Korea fires ballistic missile

The Cheong Wa Dae National Security Office convened an emergency security review meeting Sunday in response to North Korea's launch of a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea, bringing together the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other relevant agencies to assess the country's response posture.

Cheong Wa Dae said the National Security Office called the emergency meeting after North Korea fired a short-range ballistic missile from the Wonsan area into the East Sea. Through the meeting, officials confirmed the military's response status, analyzed the launch's impact on national security from multiple angles and reviewed follow-up measures deemed necessary.

The provocation came just over a week after a similar launch on Sept. 12. Cheong Wa Dae stressed the need to maintain a watertight readiness posture against the back-to-back launches and strongly condemned the North's provocative actions.

"North Korea's ballistic missile launch is a grave act that violates UN Security Council resolutions," Cheong Wa Dae said, urging Pyongyang to immediately halt its provocations.
