Clear skies Monday but wide temperature swings; dense fog to blanket some inland areas

Skies will be mostly clear across the country Monday, but the gap between daytime highs and overnight lows could exceed 15 degrees Celsius in some areas. Dense fog is expected to form in inland regions, and commuters should take extra care on the roads.

For now, most of the country — except along the East Sea coast — will see a diurnal temperature range of 10 to 15 C. Some inland areas could see swings of more than 15 C, and residents are advised to take precautions for their health.

From Saturday night through Monday morning, dense fog with visibility below 200 meters is forecast to develop mainly over inland areas of North Chungcheong Province and the central and northern inland parts of North Gyeongsang Province. Fog reducing visibility to below 1 kilometer is also expected across other inland areas nationwide, and drivers should exercise caution.

Light raindrops of less than 0.1 millimeters may fall overnight along the Gangwon Province East Sea coast and in mountainous areas.

Rough seas and swells are expected, particularly in the East Sea and South Sea, and people near the coast should stay alert. Strong winds of 30 to 55 kilometers per hour and waves of 1.5 to 3.5 meters are forecast in the outer waters of the eastern South Sea, posing risks to fishing vessels.

Morning lows are forecast to range from 13 to 19 C, with afternoon highs of 25 to 31 C.

Wave heights in coastal waters are expected to reach 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 1.0 meter in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the South Sea.

In offshore waters — roughly within 200 kilometers of the coastline — wave heights are forecast at 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the South Sea.
