SK Telecom hosted a public AI and big data innovation seminar, sharing real-world administrative applications and related technologies to expand AI and big data use across government agencies and local authorities.

The company held Gran Data Public Day 2026 on Friday at SKT Tower in Euljiro, Jung-gu, Seoul, it announced Monday. More than 250 officials from government bodies, local governments and public corporations attended.

The event was organized to share practical technologies for upgrading internal operations at public institutions and improving citizen-facing services through AI and data.

The first session featured public administration cases using AI and big data. One approach involved analyzing visitor data from cultural, sports and tourism events run by local governments, then proposing tailored recommendation programs that incorporate the success factors of similar events.

A case from Songpa-gu examined how AI analyzed development options for land owned by the district, including donated parcels. The analysis drew on the characteristics and usage levels of existing facilities, the demographic profile of nearby residents and location data to inform land development decisions.

SK Telecom operates Gran Data, a data business collaboration alliance with Shinhan Card, KCB, Kakao Mobility and SK Broadband. Gran Data launched in 2021 as a private data integration initiative by SK Telecom, Shinhan Card and KCB to support data-driven decision-making in the public and private sectors and enable more efficient use of private-sector data.

Cases involving local government data-sharing portals were also presented. The portals use conversational prompts to guide users through policy information and support the use of public data. Users can query and analyze open data and check policy information by sector through an interactive interface.

The second session covered AI technologies for public data use and approaches to internal workflow innovation. A case from the South Jeolla Province–Gwangju integrated special city showed how no-code tools and vibe coding helped operational departments in areas such as tourism and transportation access telecom and card big data in accordance with permissions and procedures.

A case from Busan addressed the application of pseudonymized data and AI-based synthetic data generation. The session also covered the technical and operational considerations involved in safely sharing and using data that requires privacy review.

Kim Myeong-guk, head of industrial AI at SK Telecom, said AI agents built on services such as A. and Gran Data's private-sector data are already being applied to on-site work at public institutions. "We will continue to propose ways to support data utilization and work innovation in the public sector," he said.

Meanwhile, SK Telecom has been selected as the final operator of the government's public AI service initiative and is developing action-oriented AI agents covering public services. The company also plans to use AI to support public services such as document applications through the Government24 portal and guidance on welfare services available to users.
