Starbucks Korea announced Monday it will launch a "My Star Coffee" campaign to deliver gratitude and encouragement to neighbors in local communities.

Under the campaign, Starbucks and its customers will together work toward contributing up to 1 million cups of coffee to local "stars" — people dedicated to serving their communities. Starting Sept. 28, every purchase of a "coffee of the day" at any Starbucks store nationwide on Mondays will automatically generate a matching donation of the same number of cups to the My Star Coffee pool.

Starbucks' mobile trailer unit, known as the "Seobukcha," will also take part in the campaign. The trailer has previously visited welfare facilities, disaster sites, farming communities and logistics centers to deliver coffee and food.

To mark the campaign launch, Starbucks will offer a free size upgrade on brewed coffee purchases eligible for My Star Coffee every Monday from Sept. 28 through Nov. 2.

"Through this campaign, we will work to ensure that the sincerity behind every cup our customers purchase reaches the stars around us," said Shin Dong-woo, chief executive of Starbucks Korea.
