Cho Sung-min, a former national team sailor, has launched his campaign at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games as a candidate for the Olympic Council of Asia Athletes' Commission.
Voting began Sunday and runs through Oct. 2 — a 13-day window held on-site during the Asian Games. The election will fill four Athletes' Commission seats, one each for East Asian men, Central Asian men, West Asian women and Southeast Asian women. All athletes competing at the Games may cast one vote per regional seat, for a total of four votes each regardless of their own region.
Cho is competing for the East Asian men's seat against Japanese track-and-field athlete Naoto Tobe and Taiwanese track-and-field athlete Yang Jun-han. Because athletes at this Games are spread across multiple clusters, Cho has been visiting each cluster's athletes' village in person to meet competitors from across Asia and appeal for their support.
Cho represented South Korea at the 2012 London and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and competed at four Asian Games, from the 2002 Busan edition through the 2022 Hangzhou edition. He won a silver medal at the 2014 Incheon Games and bronze medals at the 2010 Guangzhou and 2022 Hangzhou Games. He currently serves on the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission and the Korea Sailing Federation Athletes' Commission.
OCA Athletes' Commission members convey the views of Asian athletes to the OCA and propose measures to protect athletes' rights and improve competition conditions. Results are expected within 24 hours of voting closing on Oct. 2.
