KBS comedian arrested for assaulting designated driver while intoxicated

A comedian who joined KBS through its open recruitment program has been arrested on charges of assaulting a designated driver while drunk.

Seoul's Seocho Police Station said Monday it had booked the comedian, identified only by his surname Kim, on charges of assaulting a driver of a moving vehicle under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and that an investigation is underway.

Kim is accused of grabbing and shaking the designated driver by the neck around 1 a.m. Sunday while heavily intoxicated.

The driver had picked Kim up in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, and was en route to his home at the time, police said.

Officers who responded to a report of the incident arrested Kim at the scene and are investigating the full circumstances of the assault.
