Sokcho mayor moves to ease Seoraksan traffic during fall foliage season

Sokcho Mayor Lee Byung-sun has joined forces with relevant agencies and organizations to tackle traffic congestion around Seoraksan during the fall foliage season.

"Cooperation among related agencies is above all essential to effectively managing traffic congestion around Seoraksan during the foliage season," Lee said.

Sokcho signed a "2026 Seoraksan Fall Foliage Season Special Traffic Measures MOU" with the Sokcho Police Station, Seoraksan National Park Office, Sokcho Model Drivers Association and Sinheungsa Temple on Friday at the city hall situation room.

Under the agreement, Sokcho will operate a traffic control center, provide real-time traffic information via electronic signboards, and support enforcement against illegal parking and stopping as well as traffic control. The Sokcho Police Station will handle vehicle movement restrictions, deploy personnel on-site and manage traffic accidents promptly. The Sokcho Model Drivers Association will station personnel according to traffic and parking conditions to assist with vehicle control and guide visitors to parking lots in zones B and C.

The Seoraksan National Park Office will operate shuttle buses in line with phased traffic controls and support visitor safety management and mobility for people with limited mobility. Sinheungsa Temple will share parking lot conditions at Sogongwon and cooperate with shuttle bus operations.

When the Sogongwon parking lot becomes congested, vehicles will be directed to the zone B and C lots, with shuttle bus connections provided to reduce traffic concentration.
