Gwangmyeong rolls out comprehensive Chuseok holiday plan

Gwangmyeong said Monday it will implement a comprehensive Chuseok holiday plan from Thursday through Sunday.

"We will focus our administrative capacity on responding swiftly to disasters and emergencies, and on ensuring the smooth delivery of services residents need in their daily lives — from traffic management, sanitation and parking to culture and leisure," Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won said.

Round-the-clock emergency and disaster response

During the holiday, the city will operate emergency and on-call medical institutions as well as holiday-duty pharmacies, and will set up an emergency medical situation room to minimize inconvenience for residents seeking urgent care.

The city's integrated disaster operations center will also maintain a 24-hour real-time monitoring system and stand ready to mount a swift, coordinated initial response to any emergency.

Emergency water supply and waterworks repair teams will remain on duty throughout the holiday period. Residents can report leaks or pipe damage to the waterworks division's leak repair center.

A price-stability task force will track price trends for 19 essential Chuseok goods; the results were posted to the city's website on Sept. 15, with an additional update to be posted Tuesday. On-site inspection teams have also stepped up enforcement of origin labeling and price-display regulations to help keep prices in check.

Some on-street public parking lots to open free of charge; off-street lots to operate normally

The city will establish a traffic management headquarters and set up an emergency communication network with Gwangmyeong Police Station and bus operators to respond to public transportation issues around the clock.

Ten off-street parking lots, eight on-street public parking lots and two ancillary parking lots will remain open throughout the Chuseok holiday.

Off-street parking lots will charge their regular fees, while on-street public parking lots, the Gwangmyeong Citizens' Gymnasium ancillary lot and the Gwangmyeong City Hall ancillary lot will be free.

Household waste collection during the holiday

Residents may put out household waste after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday during the Chuseok holiday.

The city will operate a sanitation situation room and a rapid-response team to handle waste-related complaints quickly and strengthen on-site response to minimize inconvenience for residents.

Gwangmyeong Memorial Park to operate normally throughout the holiday

Gwangmyeong Memorial Park will operate on its regular schedule for all four days of the Chuseok holiday, welcoming visitors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

The Gwangmyeong Police Station volunteer crime-prevention patrol will manage visiting vehicles to help mourners enter and park smoothly.

Cultural and leisure activities at Gwangmyeong Cave, the literary museum and youth facilities

Gwangmyeong Cave will operate normally throughout the holiday. Outside the cave, visitors can enjoy traditional folk games such as yutnori, hoop rolling and tuho at the Light Square.

For residents' cultural enrichment, the Gi Hyeong-do Literary Museum will host the special exhibition "Again, We on That Road: Muttering on the Road" on Thursday and Saturday through Sunday. Visitors can view visual artworks reinterpreting the imagery of poet Gi Hyeong-do's works and take part in a sentence-completion activity.

Youth facilities across the city will offer programs for residents aged 9 to 24. The Haenaem Youth Activity Center and the Pureum Youth Activity Center will hold traditional folk game experiences on Sunday in celebration of Chuseok. At the Youth Arts Creation Studio, participants can use a heat-press machine to print their chosen designs onto clothing, bags and other items on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.

Some library facilities will also be open during the holiday. Haan Library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, and Gwangmyeong Library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. All libraries will operate on their regular schedules on Sunday, the final day of the holiday.

The city's public inquiry call center will operate normally for all four days of the Chuseok holiday, available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, to answer any questions residents may have about holiday services.
