He found out his ex is getting married through her social media. Should he send a wedding gift?

A man in his 30s who stumbled across his ex-girlfriend's wedding news on social media is wrestling with whether to send her a cash gift.

The story of the man, identified only as A, was recently featured on JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a current-affairs commentary program.

A had dated a woman nine years his junior for about three years before they broke up. Even after the relationship ended, he would occasionally check her social media when curious about how she was doing.

He recently came across wedding photos and a mobile wedding invitation link on her social media account. Upon learning that the ceremony was the following weekend, he was reminded of moments when he felt he had not treated her well enough. He said he wanted to send a cash gift as a way of apologizing and wishing her well in her new life.

A confided in a younger female colleague around the same age as his ex. She urged him not to, saying, "Why would you send a wedding gift to your ex-girlfriend?" She added that since he had not been invited and had seen the news only through social media, "honestly, that's snooping," and that "from a woman's perspective, it feels a little like stalking" — advising him to leave it alone.

Social commentator Choi Hyung-jin also advised against sending the gift, noting that his ex had not reached out to him directly and that the groom could check who had sent money.

Psychology professor Park Sang-hee said she understood A's feelings but cautioned that if the gift carried any lingering attachment or regret, it could place an unwanted burden on the bride.

Attorney Park Ji-hoon took a different view, saying, "I don't think it would cause any serious problem if he just followed his heart."
