Airport railroad train makes emergency stop during evening commute, forcing 200 passengers to disembark

An airport railroad train heading toward Incheon International Airport came to an abrupt halt after triggering an emergency brake, forcing more than 200 passengers to disembark. The operator said it plans to investigate the cause.

According to Yonhap and the airport railroad operator, the train was traveling from Cheongna International City Station toward Yeongjong Station in Incheon when it stopped around 5:20 p.m. Monday.

The train halted in the middle of the tracks after the emergency braking system activated for reasons that remain unclear.

The conductor stepped off the train to inspect it but found no visible problems. The train then proceeded at reduced speed to the next stop, Yeongjong Station.

Service was suspended for about 20 minutes during the incident. Subsequent trains on the line were not affected.

About 200 passengers were on board at the time. For safety reasons, the operator instructed all of them to exit at Yeongjong Station and board a following train.

The operator said it plans to move the train to a maintenance depot to determine the exact cause of the emergency stop.

"The emergency brake is designed to activate when a foreign object becomes lodged in the train or when it sustains an impact, but we have not yet confirmed what triggered it in this case," an airport railroad official said. "We will move the train to the depot to find out exactly what happened."
