Genesis GV80 featured in Korean film 'The Intern'

Genesis announced Tuesday that its large SUV, the GV80, appears in the recently released film "The Intern."

"The Intern" follows the office life of "Sunwoo" (Han So-hee), a fashion industry dark horse who rose to prominence within three years of launching her company, and "Giho" (Choi Min-sik), a silver-haired intern with 37 years of career experience who joins her firm — a story of connection across generations and job titles. The film opened Wednesday.

The GV80 serves as Sunwoo's vehicle in the film, functioning as a key setting where she and Giho travel and talk together, gradually building a warm bond.

The GV80 becomes the space where Sunwoo begins to open up to Giho and build trust with his help — transforming from an awkward, uncomfortable setting early in the film into a place of calm, comfortable travel and rest.

Moviegoers can take in the GV80's refined exterior design and its luxurious yet comfortable interior as the vehicle appears throughout the film.

Genesis plans to continue expanding customer touchpoints by showcasing its products through a range of cultural content — including films and exhibitions — to communicate the vehicles' quality and the brand's luxury sensibility.

"Through 'The Intern,' we were able to naturally bring the GV80's dynamic yet elegant design and luxury sensibility to the screen," a Genesis official said. "We will continue our efforts through diverse collaborations to introduce the appeal of Genesis to more customers and provide opportunities for brand experiences."

"The Intern," featuring the GV80, is set to open in nine Asian markets — Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia — beginning Oct. 16.

Genesis said it hopes the film will help introduce the Genesis brand and the GV80's product qualities to moviegoers across Asia, beyond the domestic market.

Meanwhile, Genesis plans to launch the GV80 Hybrid — the brand's first hybrid model — in South Korea next month.

Built on a next-generation 2.5-liter turbocharged hybrid system, the GV80 Hybrid delivers a quiet, smooth ride with linear acceleration, offering a luxury driving experience comparable to that of an electric vehicle.

The system produces a combined maximum output of 352 horsepower and a combined peak torque of 54.0 kgf·m — roughly 16 percent more power and about 26 percent more torque than the GV80 2.5 Turbo model. In internal laboratory tests, the vehicle accelerates from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in approximately 7.1 seconds.

The GV80 Hybrid also comes loaded with hybrid-specific features, including Stay Mode, Hybrid Predictive Control (HPC) and smart regenerative braking.

Stay Mode uses the high-voltage battery to run all in-vehicle convenience functions — including climate control and multimedia — without starting the engine, and can be used while the vehicle is stationary before or after a drive. HPC anticipates the route to the destination and road conditions to optimally manage battery charge levels, encouraging efficient driving modes including EV mode.
