More than 550 people with and without disabilities are set to take part on Sept. 29 at Achasan Reservoir Sports Park, with team events, open games and experience booths designed for all ages and disability types
Gwangjin-gu and the Gwangjin-gu Disabled Sports Association will host the 3rd Gwangjin-gu Disability Lifestyle Sports Competition starting at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 29 at the soccer field of Achasan Reservoir Sports Park.
The event aims to expand sports opportunities for people with disabilities and foster mutual understanding between disabled and non-disabled participants, promoting inclusion and community cohesion. About 550 people are expected to attend, including residents with disabilities, their caregivers and non-disabled participants.
The program features 12 events in total — six team competitions and six open games — along with two experience booths. Organizers focused on activities that anyone can join regardless of disability type or age, with an emphasis on cooperation over competition and on communication and unity.
The festival opens with pre-event performances by Duduri Nak, a percussion ensemble of performers with disabilities, and trot music singer Lee Seo-hyeon. Throughout the day, Polaroid photo sessions and face-painting booths will add to the festive atmosphere alongside the main competitions.
Safety is the top priority, organizers said. A safety management plan has been drawn up in advance, caregivers have completed safety training, and the organizers have taken out liability insurance to cover any accidents.
In addition, safety personnel and volunteers will be stationed at key zones throughout the venue, with dedicated staff assigned to each team. An ambulance and medical team will remain on standby throughout the event to respond to any emergencies.
"I hope this competition becomes a meaningful occasion for people with and without disabilities to exercise together, deepen their understanding of one another and communicate openly," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said. "I look forward to many residents joining in, sharing the joy of everyday sports and building a warm community together."
