Police referred former Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-gyu to prosecutors Tuesday over allegations of misconduct in the appointment of Hong Myung-bo as national football team head coach. He faces charges of obstruction of business through fraudulent means.
Lee Im-saeng, the association's former technical director, and Kim Jeong-bae, former standing vice president, were also referred on the same charges.
Under KFA rules, the head coach must be recommended by the national team performance enhancement committee and formally appointed by the board of directors. Police determined that Chung and the others prepared board meeting documents to make Hong's appointment appear to have followed proper procedures, obstructing the board's normal operations.
