Stalking victim breaks into alleged abuser's home with knife, then turns herself in

A woman who had been a stalking victim broke into her alleged abuser's home armed with a knife, then immediately turned herself in to police.

Police at the Anyang Manan Police Station said Tuesday they have detained a woman identified only as A on charges of preparing to commit murder and are investigating the case.

A is accused of going to the home of a man in his 50s, identified only as B, in Manan-gu, Anyang, at around 8:17 p.m. Monday and breaking in by smashing the door handle with a pot she had brought with her.

B had been under police investigation on stalking charges and had failed to appear at a court hearing Monday for a pretrial detention review.

Investigators said A, alarmed by B's failure to appear at the hearing, armed herself with a knife and went to his home.

B was out at the time.

After breaking in, A used a police-issued safety smartwatch — provided to her as a stalking victim — to contact police from the scene and surrender.

A told investigators she had decided she "couldn't live like this, feeling so anxious," and that she would "have to hurt him herself."

The two had met by chance at a drinking gathering earlier this month.

After the gathering, B allegedly followed A to her home and damaged a window screen, charges for which he was also under police investigation.

Police determined that A posed a high risk of harming herself or others due to severe stress and immediately arranged for her emergency hospitalization.
