Man in his 30s sentenced to 20 years for killing sister while parents were away

A man in his 30s has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing his older sister, with whom he shared a home.

The Namyangju Branch of Uijeongbu District Court's Criminal Division 1, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Guk-sik, sentenced the defendant, identified only as A, on murder charges Tuesday.

A is accused of killing his sister, a woman in her 30s identified as B, at an apartment in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, in February.

B was found collapsed inside the home and later pronounced dead. Police confirmed through CCTV footage that A had visited the apartment around the estimated time of the killing. He was subsequently apprehended near the building, and a weapon believed to have been used in the crime was found among his belongings. A exercised his right to remain silent throughout the investigation.

"The defendant killed his sister while their parents were away from home," the court said in its ruling. "Although the defendant has refused to make a statement, a review of the evidence establishes that the killing was intentional."
