Drug approved for gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment; company eyes P-CAB market expansion
Daewoong Pharma has launched its gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment Fexuclue 40mg in Indonesia.
The drug received local approval for the treatment of erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease. Fexuclue, which contains the active ingredient fexuprazan hydrochloride, is a domestically developed new drug in the P-CAB (potassium-competitive acid blocker) class. The treatment is known for its rapid onset of action, stable acid suppression and control of nighttime symptoms.
Daewoong Pharma is also pursuing a Phase 3 multinational clinical trial involving South Korea and Indonesia to seek an expanded indication for gastric ulcer treatment, as it works to build additional clinical evidence.
Indonesia's anti-ulcer drug market was valued at $164.3 million in 2025, growing at an average annual rate of about 6.8 percent from 2023 to 2025. The acid suppressant segment remains dominated by proton pump inhibitors, though P-CAB treatments have grown 8.9-fold over the past two years.
Chief Executive Park Sung-soo said Wednesday that Indonesia is the largest market in Southeast Asia and a gateway to the ASEAN market. "This will be an opportunity to broaden the global growth base for Fexuclue," he said.
Fexuclue has entered 30 countries and received marketing approval in 16 of them. It has launched commercially in eight, including Mexico, India and the Philippines. A launch in China, the world's largest anti-ulcer drug market, is also on the horizon.
