N. Gyeongsang governor inspects Chuseok emergency readiness on first day of holiday

North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo visited the provincial general situation room and the 119 emergency situation room on Thursday, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, to inspect the emergency response system and encourage staff on duty.

To protect the safety of residents and holiday travelers and respond swiftly to disasters and accidents, the province will operate its general situation room from Thursday through Sunday, deploying 5,612 personnel across 11 duty teams over the four-day period.

At the provincial general situation room, Lee received briefings on the holiday operation plan and sector-specific measures, and reviewed response systems covering disasters, emergency medical care, traffic, wildfires and livestock infectious diseases.

He called on staff to maintain a 24-hour emergency contact system and a coordinated network among the province, cities and counties, and relevant agencies, and to ensure rapid information sharing and immediate first response when incidents arise.

At the 119 emergency situation room, Lee checked on the special Alert duty arrangements and the emergency rescue response system in place for the holiday period.

He reviewed fire, rescue and emergency dispatch operations and on-scene response procedures, and said all fire department stations must maintain airtight readiness to respond quickly to safety incidents that could occur at public facilities, residential areas and other locations.

Lee also reached out by video call to Kim Yong-heon, commander of the Dokdo security unit, and the officers guarding Dokdo, as well as workers preparing and running Chuseok events at Gyeongju Expo Grand Park, to express his gratitude.

"North Gyeongsang Province places the safety of its residents above all else," Lee said. "We will mobilize every response capability until the very last moment of the holiday so that everyone can enjoy a safe and warm Chuseok."
