'I have eggs but no man': Broadcaster Oh Jeong-yeon calls for legalizing sperm donation

Former news anchor and broadcaster Oh Jeong-yeon and fellow broadcaster Kim Seong-gyeong have called for legalizing sperm donation to allow unmarried women to have children.

Kim recently posted a video on her YouTube channel "Jeole Gan Seonggyeong," a Buddhist temple visit series, in which she and Oh visited Okcheonam Temple in Seoul and discussed marriage and childbirth.

Oh said she loves children and believes legalizing sperm donation is essential.

"Many women my age want to have children but have no partner, or want to give birth without getting married," she said. "The reality is that they have to go abroad and deal with complicated procedures and costs. I hope social awareness improves and a new culture takes shape."

Kim echoed the sentiment, saying the path to childbirth for women in their 40s should be opened quickly as a measure to address the low birth rate. "Couldn't you have a child first and then meet someone and get married later?" she said.

Oh, who has publicly disclosed that she has frozen her eggs for the possibility of future childbirth, also spoke about her views on relationships and her ideal partner.

Oh married former basketball player turned broadcaster Seo Jang-hoon in 2009 but divorced in 2012, citing differences in personality. Both have since remained active in the broadcasting industry.
