Namyangju discusses cultural and youth exchange with Mongolian ambassador

Namyangju Mayor Choi Hyun-deok met with Mongolian Ambassador to South Korea Sukhee Sukhbaatar at his office Monday to discuss ways to expand exchanges and cooperation in areas including culture and youth affairs, building on the longstanding friendly ties between the two cities.

The meeting was arranged to reaffirm the close relationship between Namyangju and Mongolia and to map out the direction of future exchanges.

Namyangju has been broadening its exchange foundation across a range of fields — including culture, youth programs and civilian interaction — since establishing a friendship and cooperation relationship with Ulaanbaatar in 1998.

Mayor Choi, Ambassador Sukhee and officials from both sides shared the outcomes of past exchanges and discussed the direction of future cooperation.

The two sides agreed to continue exchanges in culture, youth affairs and other areas, and to maintain close communication in support of mutual cooperation.

Namyangju plans to use the Mongolian Cultural Village, which is set to reopen, as a space where citizens of both countries can understand and engage with each other's cultures. The city also intends to explore practical exchange programs that residents can directly experience, drawing on its existing exchange foundation.

"Namyangju and Ulaanbaatar share a special bond, having exchanged ties since the early days of diplomatic relations between our two countries," Mayor Choi said. "We will operate the Mongolian Cultural Village in a new and improved form and work to further invigorate exchanges between the two cities."

The city said it will continue to communicate with the Mongolian Embassy in Seoul, the city of Ulaanbaatar and other Mongolian institutions to sustain the friendship and cooperation relationship going forward.
