Guji-myeon in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, will be elevated to "Guji-eup" status starting Wednesday.
Dalseong-gun confirmed Monday that the upgrade has been finalized, with the area officially relaunching as Guji-eup on Wednesday. A ceremony to mark the historic change will be held Oct. 23.
The area has seen its industrial base expand steadily, driven by the Daegu National Industrial Complex and the Dalseong Second Industrial Complex, which have drawn a continuous influx of businesses and workers.
The population surpassed 20,000 in December 2021 and has continued to grow since. The parallel expansion of industrial and residential functions has diversified residents' needs across administrative, welfare and lifestyle services.
Dalseong-gun said it plans to use the upgrade as an opportunity to improve residents' access to and convenience of administrative services.
The county will also step up support across a range of areas, including expanding community infrastructure suited to the region's characteristics, improving living conditions and boosting the local economy.
"The elevation to Guji-eup is the fruit of growth that local residents have built together, and a meaningful new departure opening a fresh future for Guji," Dalseong-gun County Chief Choi Jae-hoon said. "We will spare no administrative support to help Guji-eup grow into a region where industry, residential life, culture and nature develop in harmony."
Guji-myeon is located in the southern part of Dalseong-gun and is home to major industrial facilities including the Daegu National Industrial Complex and the Dalseong Second Industrial Complex, as well as historical and cultural assets such as Dodongseowon and natural surroundings including the Nakdong River.
