Taxi workers, city officials and traffic police gather for one-stop feedback session
Goyang Special City has launched a "lifestyle traffic environment improvement" initiative in partnership with taxi workers, police and other relevant agencies to quickly address traffic inconveniences residents face in their daily lives and reduce commute times.
The city hosted a town hall meeting titled "Traffic Environment Improvement for a 30-Minute Commute Reduction" on Monday at Goyang City Hall's main conference room, with about 30 participants in attendance — including individual, corporate and union taxi workers, officials from the city's parking and transportation, traffic policy, and road management divisions, and traffic safety review officers from the jurisdictional police stations.
The town hall was organized to identify concrete measures in support of two key goals of the ninth elected-term transportation policy: "shared traffic innovation and a circulating economic city," and cutting commute times by at least 30 minutes. It also aimed to address traffic-related inconveniences reported from the field.
The session was conducted in a "one-stop feedback" format, in which taxi workers — described as "mobile traffic monitors" with unmatched knowledge of road conditions — presented field observations that city and police officials reviewed on the spot.
Based on an analysis of pre-submitted field reports, participants focused on issues with high public impact: revamping signal systems and coordination on chronically congested stretches, improving dangerous road alignments, reallocating lanes, and expanding safety infrastructure.
Attendees offered specific proposals during an open floor session, such as adjusting intersection lanes and improving signals at bottleneck points. The city plans to submit the proposals to the jurisdictional police station's traffic safety review committee as top-priority agenda items, with urgent measures to be implemented immediately through a fast-track procedure.
"The success of the ninth elected-term transportation policy hinges on how quickly we can identify and resolve the congestion, transfer inconveniences and traffic blind spots that residents encounter every day," Goyang Special City Mayor Min Kyung-sun said. "Toward the goal of cutting commute times by 30 minutes, we will swiftly find and fix even the smallest inconveniences on the ground and give residents their time back."
Alongside the lifestyle traffic improvements discussed at the town hall, Goyang plans to press ahead with a broader "traffic innovation" agenda spanning everyday mobility to rail — opening 30 new "Goyang Comfortable G-Bus" commuter routes and restructuring village bus-centered routes in the first half of 2027, expanding demand-responsive "Ddokbus" services, improving signal efficiency through an AI-based intelligent transport system, and building out a medium- to long-term rail network.
