South Korea to present 2027 budget plan at Korea-OECD fiscal forum in Paris

South Korea will present the investment priorities and fiscal management strategy behind its 2027 budget proposal at an international fiscal forum in Paris, where finance officials from major economies will discuss growth investment, crisis response and long-term fiscal sustainability.

The Ministry of Planning and Budget said Tuesday it will co-host the 14th Korea-OECD International Fiscal Forum with the Korea Development Institute and the OECD at OECD headquarters in Paris from Wednesday through Thursday.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of South Korea's accession to the OECD. The forum's theme — "Fiscal Policy Beyond Crisis: Preparing for the Future" — centers on the role of public finance in addressing supply chain disruptions, the AI transition, climate change, and the challenges of low birth rates and an aging population. Finance officials from the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, along with OECD representatives, are expected to attend.

On the first day, three sessions will cover fiscal policy for growth and structural transformation, fiscal management in times of crisis, and future fiscal challenges. Lee Tae-seok, head of the KDI's fiscal and social policy research division, will present South Korea's experience drafting a supplementary budget in response to the Middle East crisis. Oh Hyeon-gyeong, director of the ministry's fiscal sustainability division, will outline the government's strategy for pursuing both growth investment and fiscal soundness. The second day will feature a comprehensive discussion on the direction of fiscal policy for sustainable growth and future preparedness.

Deputy Minister Jo Yong-beom is scheduled to meet with Stefano Scarpetta, OECD chief economist, on the sidelines of the forum to brief him on the key elements of the 2027 budget proposal, planned expenditure restructuring and the creation of a new future-response fund.
