Seongnam signed an MOU with the organizing committee of the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day (WYD) to support the event's successful hosting, the city announced Tuesday.
The signing ceremony was held in the first conference room on the fourth floor of Seongnam City Hall, with Mayor Shin Sang-jin, Lee Gyeong-sang — chairman of the Seoul World Youth Day Organizing Committee and a bishop — and Secretary General Kim Nam-gyun, a priest, in attendance.
World Youth Day is the world's largest Catholic youth gathering, bringing together young people from around the globe to share their faith and culture.
The Seoul World Youth Day will open with diocesan events across 15 dioceses nationwide from July 29 to Aug. 2 next year, followed by the main event centered on the Archdiocese of Seoul from Aug. 3 to Aug. 8.
"The 2027 Seoul World Youth Day is an international event where young people from around the world come to Korea to share their cultures and values," Mayor Shin said. "We will work closely with the organizing committee across all areas of preparation so that participants and residents visiting Seongnam can experience and exchange diverse cultures through the event."
