The Open champion Ryan Fox to compete at Genesis Championship

Ryan Fox of New Zealand, champion at The Open — the final major of the season — will compete at the Genesis Championship as an invited player.

The tournament organizing committee announced Fox's participation Wednesday. Fox claimed his first major title at The Open held at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England in July, edging Cameron Young of the United States by one stroke.

It will be Fox's first visit to Korea in 11 years. Having turned professional at 25 and progressed through the Australian, Asian and DP World tours before securing a full PGA Tour card in 2024, Fox left a strong impression on Korean fans when he finished tied for runner-up at the 34th GS Caltex MK Open in 2015.

Returning to Korea as a major champion after 11 years, Fox said the passionate support of Korean fans in 2015 stayed with him. "I will compete at my best against world-class players like Im Sung-jae and Kim Si-woo," he said.

Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the Genesis Championship carries a purse of $4 million and runs for four days starting Oct. 22 at Ujeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. Co-sanctioned by the KPGA Tour and the DP World Tour, the event will feature 126 top players from Korea and abroad.

Since its inaugural edition in 2017, the Genesis Championship has been held every year and has helped drive the growth of Korean men's golf. Its roll of champions includes inaugural winner Kim Seung-hyeok, followed by Lee Tae-hee, Im Sung-jae, Kim Tae-hun, Lee Jae-kyeong, Kim Young-su, Park Sang-hyeon, Ahn Byeong-hun and Lee Jeong-hwan.

The tournament serves as the final gateway to the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai playoff, closing out the "Back 9" stretch of the season. It is also a pivotal event for KPGA Tour players, including the top 36 in the Genesis Points standings, as it determines the Genesis Award and top-10 finishes.

The winner will receive $680,000, a Genesis vehicle, two-year playing rights on both the KPGA Tour and the DP World Tour, 1,300 Genesis Points and 835 Race to Dubai ranking points. The top-finishing KPGA Tour member will also earn a spot in the 2027 Genesis Scottish Open, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour.

Tickets are on sale through the official ticketing platform Unitix, which offers second-round early-bird discounts, weekend passes, full-day passes and souvenir packages. Unitix also provides real-time scores, tee-time pairings, weather updates and broadcast information.

A spectator parking lot will be set up near Sonobell Cheonan, with shuttle buses running continuously from the lot and from Exit 3 of Cheonan-Asan Station to the venue. Express shuttle services will also be available from major hubs in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Gwangju, Daejeon and Busan via Kakao T Shuttle, reducing traffic congestion and improving access.
