Experts to visit disaster-vulnerable households in Guryong, Dalteo, Jaegeon and Sujeong villages in October, checking for gas leaks, circuit breakers and aging wiring — urgent repairs addressed on the spot, with year-round safety management spanning heat waves, thaws, floods and routine patrols
Gangnam-gu will conduct gas and electrical safety inspections at about 300 disaster-vulnerable households in Guryong, Dalteo, Jaegeon and Sujeong villages in October, ahead of the season when fire risks intensify.
The villages are classified as disaster-vulnerable areas where fires could cause significant damage, making preemptive safety management essential. The district will dispatch gas and electrical experts to visit each household and carry out thorough on-site assessments.
On the gas side, inspectors will check for leaks and examine the condition of pipes. On the electrical side, they will verify that circuit breakers are functioning properly and look for aging wiring and other fire hazards. Circuit breakers and gas timers requiring urgent replacement will be swapped out by the district, and residents will be briefed on the findings so they can manage their own safety going forward.
Gangnam-gu said the October inspections are part of a broader, year-round safety program tailored to the seasons and types of disasters that threaten vulnerable communities.
Last summer, the district operated heat-relief shelters in the villages to protect residents during heat waves. During the spring thaw, the deep-freeze season and periods of heavy rain and flooding, the district carries out special inspections to identify hazards in facilities and the surrounding living environment before they become emergencies.
Regular on-site patrols run alongside the seasonal checks. Staff make frequent visits to identify residents' concerns and safety risks, addressing necessary improvements promptly to close safety gaps in disaster-vulnerable areas.
"In disaster-vulnerable areas, even a moment of inattention can lead to serious harm, which is why advance inspections and prevention are paramount," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi said. "We will continue to pursue field-centered safety measures so that residents can live with peace of mind."
